Under this General Obligation Bond (GOB) project, Air Base K-8 Center experienced a renovation and addition of a new single-story tilt-up classroom building, a flammable storage building, outdoor dining shelter, two basketball/volleyball hard courts, parent drop-off, parking lot and new covered walkways. Classroom Building (A) is approximately 16,590 SF and Classroom Building (B) is about 4,800 SF and houses an Art Lab and a Music Lab. The outdoor dining shelter required extra coordination as all the school’s utility lines were uncovered underneath the proposed shelter’s site. Thornton went above and beyond, working exceptionally carefully to ensure that services were not interrupted, at times even excavating by hand how digging was not possible as initially planned.
